In 1983 he set up his own shop in Arlington Massachusetts not far from
where he grew up. In those days of the real estate boom then gripping the area he was kept busy building
custom kitchens and other case work for area builders. By late 1985 he decided to move out to the country in
rural Western Massachusetts.
While he's continued to do commissions for his clients in the Boston area his customer base has gradually
grown to include much of South Western New England and NY City. He has also shipped furniture as far afield
as Bainbridge Island in Washington State. In the portfolio provided here you can view a sampling of Jim's work
including a recent commission for the Porches Inn at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams
Massachusetts
"My craft has evolved along with the challenges presented by each new
commission. Whether it's an interpretation of an 18th century China cabinet or a contemporary media room, I
feel I give a part of myself to each project and in turn gain further insight and knowledge of the intricacies
of fine wood joinery."
"I also take great pleasure in the working relationship that develops
between client and craftsman. I am proud of the comments I have garnered over the years in that respect, some
of which are included here, and the fact that I have many long standing professional friendships as a result
of the integrity and apparent enthusiasm that I bring to my work."
